Some Stuff That We Do

Mercado

Mercado is our sort-of bimonthly artist market. The first few were a total hoot and the next one will be along soon.

Trails

Trails Forepaw‘s monthly drawing night/ publishing experiment just keeps getting better.

Tape Projects

Tape Projects are holding a series of artist talks at our place, usually on the last monday of every month. Check their site for info.

Run! You Beasts!

Run! You Beasts! This is the short film and video compilation DVD we helped Pip make in 2006. R!YB! II is now seeking submissions!

Summer Winds

Summer Winds are putting on monthly shows here from now on. Each night is a smorgasbord of artschool punk and herky-jerky hottness, with hand-picked performers from all over the country and beyond.

Head Muzak

Head Muzak was an interactive installation by Michael Prior that lived at Forepaw in March of this year. You can watch the little video we made and read the artists statement here.

And in case you were wondering, the monthly Tape Projects artist talks will be resuming in February.

Dworzec. Summer Winds.

Please consider:

Friday 18 Jan

Dworzec
Francis Plagne + Marco Fusinato
Julian Williams

8pm. AA. $cheap

Dworzec were probably our favourite Melbourne "thing" when they were kicking around in the early 2000s, an extraordinary and now kind of legendary example of "free-floating, unhinged group-think improvisation". Jon Dale once said that, and he also said this: "Dworzec are a truly incredible outfit - slow-breathing, time-melting, mind-expansion group thought of a most beautiful kind." They disappeared at some point and haven't been sighted for at least 5
years, but recently there's been a couple of attempts at getting them to play again, neither of which ended up occurring due to a) stolen equipment and b) a canceled show. But it's finally happening. At our place. Do not miss this.

Melbourne teenager Francis Plagne was once described in the Age as having "the sensibility of a middle-aged musicologist and the free-form enthusiasm of a teenage music nerd". He's put out a couple of albums that blend pop, drone and musique concrete. He'll be collaborating with Marco Fusinato on the night.

Marco has collaborated with Thurston fucking Moore. He's a visual artist and musician and also plays in the experimental / free / noise group SOLVER with John Nixon. He also runs the FreewaySound label, which, apart from releasing his own and SOLVER's stuff, has also
released albums by the likes of NZ free-noise-alchemists A Handful of Dust.

Julian Williams says this about himself: "Hello, My name is Julian Williams and I've been doing my thing in music and experimental theatre in Melbourne for years now, how they go so fast." These things have included another old-Melbourne-favourite The Solids, a million
solo tapes and rekkids on his own From The Same Mother label, and currently Hi-God People. He has a new album out now/soon on Synaesthesia called Liquidambar.

Saturday 19 Jan

Downtown (millionth show at forepaw and 2nd last show ever!)
Wasted Truth (2/3rds of Downtown + Lakes)
Bum Creek
Super Star (ex-Deaf!Deaf!)
Emesis (from Brisvegas)

7.30pm. AA. $10 with Summer Winds compilation CD

This is a CD launch/fundraiser for the Melbourne leg of the Summer Winds festival. Go here for more info about that and the bands involved.

We will say that the main reason we have nothing on next weekend is so we can go to SW on the 26th. You should all try and make it to that and this show too. You can have yer Merediths and yer Big Day Outs, Summer Winds is Australia's Finest Summer Music Festival.

NOTE: Early promo (including the flyer on the SW myspace) list ZOND as headlining this show. Well, they're not playing. They played here last weekend and yes, they were pretty fantastic, but their volume levels make our neighbours CRAZY with HATE and RAGE. Which is entirely reasonable. So we can't have them back, unfortunately.

Site Maintenance

We're tweaking and improving a few things around forepaw.org this weekend, so the odd page might appear busted for a little while. Apologies for any inconvience this may cause. We'll let you know when we return to regular programming.

Loathing. Lakes. Lost.

No time for small talk. Look at these amazing shows!

Friday Jan 11:

Mutual Loathing (Adelaide) & Nylstoch
Marden

8pm. All Ages. $Cheap

Saturday Jan 12:

Zond
Snawklor
Lost Animal

8pm. AA. $Cheap

Last time Zond played at Forepaw I thought their extraordinary volume / electricity consumption was going to blow our wiring and burn the place down (This is true).

Snawklor is Dylan Martorell & Nathan Gray's longtime musical/visual collaboration.

Lost Animal is Jarrod from St Helens + New Season. Listen, you'll thank me later.

Next week: Dworzec / Marco Fusinato / Francis Plagne / Sean Baxter + Summer Winds CD Launch! OMG!!!1!
