Types of Grants offered by the community foundation

Discretionary Grants

The Community Foundation awards grants through a competitive application process, usually during scheduled grant rounds and additional solicited (invite-only) grant opportunities. Grant committees complete a rigorous review of each application to determine how funding is distributed based on criteria established to fulfill the charitable mission of the fund. Learn more about some of these funds.

Donor Recommended Grants

The Community Foundation stewards a variety of donor-advised funds. Grants from these funds are awarded based upon the recommendation of the donor (or their designated representative) to the causes and organizations they choose. These are not open or competitive application opportunities. In most cases, we do not share the donor’s information.

The Community Foundation can only make grants to nonprofit organizations which are tax-exempt under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code, or an entity that meets IRS charitable guidelines. Find more answers to frequently asked questions.
